OS X 10.2 includes Inkwell, which ports the Newton handwriting recognition technology to the Mac. Inkwell requires a tablet. Bonjour is Apple’s technology that allows Macs to find each other and other Bonjour-aware devices without user configuration. It also improved support for Windows networks. Download the zip file, unzip it, and double click the.exe file to install. (Note: There can be a 30 second or so delay when starting it while it gathers and loads all the needed images.) The Free and Pro versions are the same download. Some pro version features (add supporters & mantling, import PNG & some SVG graphics, and a couple others) are locked until a license code is entered.

If you upgrade to the Pro version please save your email which has the download webpage and your license code in case you need to re-install later.

Download the zip then unzip it to get the installer. Double-click the installer to install the Coat of Arms Design Studio.

Follow these instructions:

  • You’ll need to install java on your computer first. Go here to get it:
    http://www.java.com/download/
  • Download the main file: coa.zip. Save this to your computer.
  • Find the file on your computer and double-click it to launch.

You can get the program in any of several different ways. The software is written in Java, so in each case a java .jar file is used/wrapped:

  • An .exe setup file for Windows that DOES NOT REQUIRE JAVA. Download this, unzip it and click to run it. We’re still testing this, so please send feedback to support at inkwellideas dot com. Powered By Excelsior JET.
  • A zipped .app file/folder for Mac OSX that also DOES NOT REQUIRE JAVA. In order to use it you may need to temporarily change your security settings to install/open unsigned apps, then reset the security setting.
  • A .jar file that you simply double-click to run. It will prompt you to ask for an amount of memory to use. You will need java installed first to run it.
  • A simple .jar file for expert users. You’ll want to start it with the command line “java -jar -Xmx2000M cityographer.jar” (You can replace the 2000M with higher amounts of memory.)

Building Floorplans

A new feature adds building interior maps to some buildings. Download the file and unzip it somewhere on your computer.

To use it, start a new map in Cityographer. Where you override the various defaults (line styles, map items, etc) there is a new drop-down for interior maps. Change the drop down to say “Use Folder for Interior Maps” and then use the adjacent button to browse for the folder where you unzipped the maps.

Now when you Add/View/Edit a Note for a building, if the building had maps available (say a tavern, inn, blacksmith, some houses and several others) you’ll see a floorplan map in the note. You can change it (select any file on your computer) using the “edit” button in tat section. You can open it up in your computer’s default image viewer by clicking “open”. The maps are large, battlemat format: 1″ squares represent 5′ and are 300 pixels.

Feel free to add your own maps to the folder you unzipped. Simply grab any .png, .jpg, or .gif and give it a name that starts with the building’s key value in all lower case. For example, the armorer is simply armorer and the spice merchant is spice-merchant. Go to the Configure menu and select “Map Items” to see all the map items in the system and their keys.
